2024 Utah General Session Begins

The General Session begins on Tuesday as Monday is a holiday. The session has a constitutionally mandated length and will run through March 1st. As I type this, there are just under 400 bills posted and made public. There will be many more as comments of greater than 1500 bills being submitted have been made and is consistent with the past. This year’s controversial bills will include the below and some will get hard pushes while others may not even leave the Rules Committee. Even with that, just by making a bill public, conversations will occur on the topics and communities may be impacted by the presence of these bills and the language that comes out in discussion.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
  • Transgender Bathroom Bans/ Protecting Women’s Spaces
  • Voting Rights
  • Immigration and access to government schools
